start by (day)dreaming together

First things first: There is no one size fits all when it comes to planning a wedding.

Planning is less stressful and more rewarding when you focus on the basics first - what matters the most to you two right now.
Do you want something smaller that feels intimate, or do you want to throw an amazing party?
Are there family or cultural traditions you want to honor? Aesthetic details you dream of that would determine a location?
Do you want super simple and straightforward, lush romantic details, or an experience based day that’s totally unconventional?

As much as you can, ditch any external expectations or pressure. For this very first conversation, ask each other: if there was no budget or time constraints and anywhere in the world… What would a really fun wedding day look like for you?

this matters.

How you feel throughout your wedding day matters - A LOT.
If your outfits are comfortable and make you feel like the best version of you.
If your vendors make you feel seen and are wholeheartedly on your team from day 1.
If you aren’t rushed and can really be fully present in the moment.
These are memories that will strongly effect your overall experience.

Planning your wedding around the people and elements that are deeply meaningful to you is a great way to avoid regrets or disappointment about how it can play out; even when things don’t go exactly to plan (there’s always something! My husband and I forgot our marriage certificate lol). This is your opportunity to create real memories, an experience that FEELS good from start to finish, and all around one of the best days…

best. day. ever.

I want to show up for you in a really real way - start to finish.

I want you to feel seen, your priorities heard, and to feel supported from the very start. And for your relationship to feel celebrated at every step.

At our initial consultation and following check ins, I offer advice, creative problem solving based on my years of experience, and practical assistance with items such as filing permits and creating a timeline. If you have questions, I’m in your corner - you don’t have to figure this out alone.

What’s included?

When you hire me, you’re getting more than just a photographer.
With years of expertise in the wedding industry and planning packages available, I can help you navigate your wedding experience every step of the way.

    • The first step is filling out the form on the bottom of this page! This creates a project page that allows us to track all our communication in one place.

    • We’ll schedule an initial consultation via a video call to meet face to face, make sure we get along swimmingly, and talk through all your plans and priorities. Getting to know you a little bit and understanding what really matters to you is invaluable. I offer experienced feedback and aim to help you create a flow to the day (timeline) that FEELS good – not too rushed and no big gaps.

    • After our call, I’ll send over a copy of my notes along with an invoice and contract (able to be filled and signed online). Once these are processed, you’re booked!

    • I’m happy to assist in sourcing vendors as preferred/able.

    • We schedule check in calls every couple of months to touch base and update me on any changes in plans. There is a final call apx. 2 weeks prior where we solidify any lingering details.

    • I location scout, consider tide charts and the weather forecasts; etc. and advise/make plans for where to hold portraits.

    • My approach to portraits is heavily prompt-based to help you relax, connect with each other, and gently direct to help you look like the best version of yourselves.

    • After your wedding day, you’ll receive your images digitally within 6-8 weeks (often much sooner).

    • After your images are delivered, I’ll send over one final email asking for a review. If you’re comfortable sharing about your experience, this is super helpful in growing my business and helping other couples know a little bit more about me! (Not mandatory)

    • And that’s a wrap! I’m still here for you however I can be post-wedding. If you want heirloom/specialty products, want to schedule an anniversary session, or have family session needs moving forward, I’d be honored to continue to be a part of your lives.

  • Created specifically for those wanting Adventure Elopements and available for elopements only

If you want EASY and you want to delegate the work of planning out an adventure elopement (researching the best spots to get married + backups, have someone provide you with all the forms required to get permits, delegate sourcing specialty vendors such as sea plane pilot or 4x4 tours) and have more 1:1 advice about what to pack for an adventure elopement; etc. the Planning Assistance packages are for you.

This is significant additional support to my standard process of helping clients from start to finish and even offering expert advice. Think of this as hiring a planner for all the details leading up to your day - everything but standard day of coordination (most likely not needed with few guests, however, I will recommend a day of coordinator if needed/wanted as my focus will primarily be on documenting).

I also create a more complex timeline that includes all vendors and communicate this with all those involved.

During our initial call, if I feel your plans are beyond my scope of services and would be best supported by a full planning team, I will provide referrals and recommend hourly coverage.

  • Wedding planning doesn’t have to be overwhelming. I’m here for you from the very start! We will have several check ins to discuss everything from basic plans to a detailed timeline walkthrough.

While I am not a replacement for an event coordinating team (if elaborate details will be part of your day, my attention will be focused on you; not coordinating), I will help you navigate planning a day that’s right for you and give advice + connect you with vendors who will make your dreams a reality. If I don’t have a solution for you right away, I will find it for you.

  • Want your “something borrowed” to be your attire? You’re always welcome to use a piece from my client closet!

  • While true self solemnization is not legal in WA State (you still need to have 2 witnesses and an officiant), if you’d like to get as close as possible by reading each other vows with just your witnesses present, I am ordained and can sign your marriage certificate. I'm also ALWAYS thrilled to be a witness.

  • Within 6-8 weeks (typically a lot sooner!) you will receive all the very best photos from your day in full color as well as black and white copies.

Because each wedding is unique, my clients’ priorities on how they spend their time and what they want photographed can vary widely, and I do not limit your gallery to a specific amount (you do NOT have to choose favorites or pay for extras!), I do not provide quotes on the final number of images. For a general reference, my typical is 60+/hour.

Light retouching (blemishes, scratches; etc.) always included! If you have specific retouching concerns, please communicate these with me in our initial consultation so I may provide feedback on whether your goals are within my typical editing range or if we would need to consider hiring an expert retoucher.

  • Prints and products are OPTIONAL so that you may fully customize these to your budget and preferences. To make this as easy as possible, your gallery is pre-loaded into an online service (currently PicTime) where you can select favorites to share on social media, email images to family and friends, or select your top favorites to print. This also makes it very convenient for family and friends to purchase what they would like on their own - all you have to do is share your link!

ELOPEMENTS - MICROWEDDINGS - EVENTS
You’ve got options.

While I primarily work with intimate weddings and elopements, it’s not about a certain number of guests or the location. I work with clients who want to have an intentional experience that’s focused on connection with those closest to you.

Elopements can make incredible wedding day experiences.

An elopement is not less than a wedding - it’s a type of wedding that offers loads of flexibility to include adventures, unconventional plans, and intimate moments. (Pro tip: want to include more guests without the in person headcount? Choosing a location that can accommodate a video call is a GREAT option to have the best of both worlds. The image above is a couple saying hi to friends and family around the world at Elope253 in Tacoma, WA.)

Microweddings are also great wedding experiences.
If you want a quieter; more intimate day with less than 50 guests but still all your closest people + lots of relaxed time to connect? A micro-wedding held in your backyard, a smaller venue, city or state park; etc. would be a great fit.

You can absolutely combine elopements and events as well.
Keep your vows feeling intimate with just a few family and friends in the morning, and then transition into a whole party at night?
Totally do-able.

As an introvert, I am most creative and serve my couples best in intimate wedding scenarios or at larger event celebrations that have intimate wedding goals. When I’m able to focus all my attention on my couple, their guests, and their photography priorities (verses an expectation of helping manage the day or directing stylized photos of guests), I’m able to provide the highest value of service. If you are wanting an elaborate or highly scheduled event, I strongly recommend hiring an event planner who can be dedicated to managing all the details involved so you can be fully in the moment.

Where to elope in Washington State?

I love a good backyard wedding, cabin rental, or curated venue… and wild spaces have my whole heart.

If you’re considering having your location outdoors in one of our local parks, I’m here to help you navigate accessing those permits and planning your day in a low impact/Leave No Trace values at the forefront.

Washington State is home to three incredible National Parks; each with wide ranges in environment and access. With everything from lush rainforests and rugged coastal views to cascading mountains, there’s something for everyone. Permitting is typically related to group size, and access points may be limited.

couple signing Washington marriage certificate

How to legally get married in WA State:

To legally get married in Washington State, you’ll need:

  • A marriage license (procured at least 3 days prior to your date and used within 60 days)

  • An officiant

  • 2 witnesses (must be 18 years or older)

Notes that totally made my day:

“Heather was an amazing person and photographer. The day really wouldn’t have been the same without her. She captured each moment with such beauty, detail, and intention. Each moment felt genuine, even when we were tired from all the smiling haha.Every person we talked to said they really enjoyed her presence.
We admire her talent in capturing the unique spirit and personality of each couple, family, and person she’s photographing.”

A & C

“WWWOOOOOWWW! Wow!! We LOVE the photos! Surely, words fail. If I can think of a song that captures how I feel, I'll share it, but know Heather that M. and myself are ecstatic with how the photos turned out. And there's so many of them; and such variety! We are ecstatic! THANK YOU.”

N & M

“Can’t say enough nice things! Heather photographed our wedding and was JUST what we hoped for. She was flexible, professional, easy to talk to, and did a fantastic job! We had a lot of portrait photos with extended family combinations and she was amazing and getting folks lined up and organized without it feeling like a big deal at all. Once we booked with Heather, I had zero photographer stress throughout the months leading up to the wedding, as well as day-of. Our beautiful photos were ready for us super quick and we absolutely love them! Thank you, Heather!!”

M & A

“Heather was an incredible partner for our wedding. She went the extra mile to help scout locations for our woodsy photos and she made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. Overall, we loved working with her and strongly recommend her for your wedding!”

D & T

“Wow!  I cannot thank you enough for these beautiful pictures. I thought we’d get a handful of pictures, and all I really wanted was a picture to frame and hold onto as we get old(er).  But you went above and beyond.  I can’t stop looking at them!  You captured us - all of our excitement and nerves on that day, our goofiness, and our love for each other and our friends and family.
Thank you so much!”

K & T

"There is no shortage of wonderful things to say about Heather! Heather captured our engagement and wedding photos and made us feel incredible throughout the entire process. She managed to keep up with our changing ideas, event locations, and emotions. She manages to capture genuine moments and emotions in a beautifully artistic way that is hard to describe with words. I am so glad that we chose her to capture such a momentous occasion--not only are our photographs beautiful, but our days were made better and brighter by Heather's presence. We were blessed to have her with us for our entire wedding day that included getting ready photos, our ceremony at Elope 253, dinner, bowling, and an arcade trip! She even carved out time for us to have our first dance at a gorgeous park right after sunset which meant the world to us. She helped so much throughout the day, from helping fix my veil and organizing a bubble exit, to saving my niece's night with Shout wipes. If you're looking for someone to capture authentic moments from your special days in a beautiful way that will leave all of your family and coworkers impressed, Heather is definitely the right choice!"
